NetSuite Consultant

Independent NetSuite consulting

A NetSuite consultant who tells you when not to build it.

We work only in NetSuite, and we've done it since 2016. That means we usually know within one call whether your problem is a script, a configuration change, a reporting question, or a process that needs redesigning before anyone touches the system.

What a NetSuite consultant actually does

The titles get used interchangeably, and the difference costs people money. A NetSuite developer writes SuiteScript against a specification. A NetSuite consultant works out what the specification should be — which means understanding the business process first and the ERP second.

Hiring a developer without the consulting step is how companies end up paying to automate a process that shouldn't exist. The code works. The problem stays.

Where we're usually brought in

  • A stalled project. Someone quoted hourly, the hours ran, and delivery keeps moving.
  • An inherited account. The person who built it left, and nobody knows what's deployed or why.
  • Performance problems. Scripts timing out, scheduled jobs failing, pages loading slowly.
  • A process that outgrew its setup. The configuration made sense at 20 orders a day and doesn't at 500.
  • An integration that needs building or fixing. E-commerce, CRM, 3PL, or EDI.

How to choose a NetSuite consultant

Three questions. The answers tell you more than any certification list.

1. Who specifically is doing the work?

In larger firms the person who sells the engagement is often not the person who delivers it, and the person who delivers it may be junior and rotating off in three months. Ask for the name of the individual writing your code, and ask whether you can speak to them directly during the project.

2. How is it priced, and what does the price include?

Hourly billing transfers all the estimation risk to you. Every bug becomes a decision about whether it's worth paying to fix. Fixed pricing puts the risk on the consultant, which is uncomfortable for them and is exactly why it produces careful scoping.

Our terms: fixed price quoted before work starts, no charge for bugs or in-scope revisions, no forced sign-off deadline, and no invoice at all if the delivered solution doesn't solve the problem we scoped.

3. What happens if it doesn't work?

Most contracts answer this with a support retainer, which means you pay again. Ask the question directly and listen for whether the answer involves you paying more money.

Independent consultant vs. large partner firm

Both are right sometimes, and it's worth being honest about which is which.

Go with a large partner for a greenfield implementation across multiple subsidiaries and currencies, where you need change management, training programmes, parallel-run support, and enough staff to absorb someone leaving mid-project.

Go independent for customization, integration, optimisation, remediation, and ongoing enhancement. The work is more technical than organisational, and the overhead of a large firm buys you nothing on it. You get faster turnaround and you talk to the person doing the work.

System assessment: the usual starting point

For an account you inherited or one that's grown messy, we start with an audit rather than a change. It covers:

  • Inventory of every deployed script, workflow, and bundle — including what's deployed but inactive
  • Governance and performance profile: what's slow, what's failing, what's close to limits
  • Customizations that duplicate native functionality added in later releases
  • Data model problems that will constrain reporting later
  • A prioritised remediation list with fixed prices, so you can pick what's worth doing

Clients regularly find that a third of what's deployed in their account is doing nothing.

Frequently asked

What does a NetSuite consultant cost?

Hourly rates in the market commonly run from around $85 to $250 depending on region and seniority, which makes total project cost unpredictable. We quote a fixed price per project instead, so you evaluate one number against the value of the outcome rather than tracking a running meter.

Do you work with our existing NetSuite partner?

Often, yes. Plenty of clients keep their implementation partner for licensing and major projects and bring us in for customization and technical work. We're not trying to displace anyone.

What time zones do you cover?

We work with clients across North America, Europe, and Australia. Clients consistently mention response time as a strength despite the distance — see the client comments.

Are you NetSuite certified?

Yes — SuiteFoundation and SuiteCloud Developer. Worth saying plainly, though: certification proves familiarity with the platform, not judgement about your business. Ask for references on outcomes as well.

One call is usually enough to know what you're dealing with.
