NetSuite, the cloud-based business management software, has announced the end of support for the setup of new SMS/Voice call-based two-factor authentication (2FA) for its users. This change is aimed at ensuring the security and privacy of customer data, as well as providing a more streamlined and secure authentication process.
Starting from 1st March 2023, new SMS/Voice call-based 2FA setups will no longer be supported. However, existing users who are currently using SMS/Voice call-based will not be impacted but it is recommended that they also switch to a more secure 2FA method. This change will enhance security measures and ensure the protection of data from unauthorized access.
The recommended alternative for 2FA is the use of a Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) application, such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator. TOTP apps provide a more secure form of 2FA by generating a unique one-time code for each login attempt, which is then verified against the code stored in the app. This provides an added layer of security to the login process, making it more difficult for unauthorized individuals to access sensitive customer data.
It is important for NetSuite users to understand that this change is not optional, and it is essential to transition to a more secure authentication method in order to ensure the protection of sensitive customer data.
